Fundamentals of Canoeing class:

In the Fundamentals of Canoeing class, you will be taught the many different strokes to manuever a canoe on flat water. The Saturday and Sunday portion of these classes are usually taught on Lake Natomas at either the CSUS Aquadic Center or at Willow Creek (near US 50 and Folsom Blvd). Another site for this class could be at Sailor Bar, near Hazel Ave.


Basic River Canoeing class:

The Basic River Canoeing class is usually held on the Lower American River. Sometimes, class is held at Sailor Bar for much of the first day, then down to Sunrise Bridge. Also, Upper Goethe Park is used. From there, we can go down through Arden Ponds or even through Arden Rapids if some students want to.
In this class, you take what you learned in Fundamentals of Canoeing and apply it to moving water. You learn the dynamics of moving water and how each paddle stroke affects the canoe and how the moving water affects the canoe. Usually, students wish to participate in river rescue by capsizing the canoe while other students practice the rescue.

Introduction to Whitewater Canoeing class:

The Introduction to Whitewater Canoeing class is usually held on the South Fork of the American River, starting at Coloma and taking out at Henningsen Park.
This class takes you from the more gentle moving water of Lower American River to class II moving water. Here, there are bigger waves and more obstacles in the river. You will learn how to safely canoe down rapids using the many obstacles to your advantage and how to avoid obstacles. We introduce you to some of the fun stuff that the kyakers do like surfing waves.

Introduction to Solo Canoeing class:

The Introduction to Solo Canoeing class is usually held on the Lower American River, starting at Upper Goethe Park and taking out at Grist Mill.
This class takes what you learned in the Fundamentals of Canoeing and the Basic River classes and applies it to a solo canoe.
